2033 CE — The Sol Confederation is founded. Earth remains the legal capital as the republic’s institutions expand first across Sol and later beyond it. In the modern Confederation, Mars functions as the de facto political, administrative and military capital.

The twenty-third century

2200s CE — The Prometheus Incident. The Sapience Protocols are enacted, establishing restrictions on sentient general artificial intelligence. The record dates the incident to the century rather than assigning a precise year.

The corporate and network settlements

2367 CE — Interstellar Corporations Act. Five original Megacorporations receive semi-sovereign status. Four survive into the present day.

After the Second Secession War — GalaxyNet comes under Confederate control. Mercurius Communications is dissolved and the Confederation assumes administration of the faster-than-light communications network. Exact dates for the two Secession Wars are omitted from this public chronology.

The Imperial confrontation

Circa 2580 CE — The Holy Solar Empire declares itself. First contact with the Confederation begins a prolonged cold war. The coreward frontier becomes a central concern of Confederate strategic planning.

The present survey

2780 CE — Current archive reference year. The Confederation reports twenty-six active fleets and seven Military Districts. Its territorial survey places the Limit of Control at approximately 858 light-years from Sol, with the Frontier Zone extending to 1,500 light-years.
