Standard interstellar propulsion

The Alcubierre faster-than-light drive is the backbone of interstellar travel. By 2780 it is a standard technology, enabling human civilization to operate across distances that would otherwise separate its worlds for generations.

Confederate expansion, trade, and naval deployment all take place within a civilization built around faster-than-light movement. The drive is one part of that larger infrastructure.

The navigation dependency

Safe Alcubierre navigation requires GalaxyNet. A vessel’s propulsion capability must be understood together with its access to the communications and navigation grid.

This dependency gives the network strategic value beyond communications alone. Interstellar movement relies on both the ship and the infrastructure connecting its route to the wider Confederation.

Travel within charted space

Official strategic charts distinguish controlled space, the Frontier Zone, and explored space. A drive’s ability to reach a region does not establish a federal presence there. The availability of charts and the existence of a patrol or garrison are separate conditions.

Consult the territorial register for those distinctions and the trade-lane register for the Confederation’s principal interdistrict corridors.
